![]() Accept Brotherhood's faults if you want to watch it, but never under any circumstances should the two be thought of as the same. The first half of 2003 is done better than the first 13 episodes of Brotherhood, end of story. If you want the pure manga experience, read the manga. ![]() There are a few Vic Mignogna-related changes and mistranslations (the last episode of '03 in particular) that muddle some of the more important points. 1-25 watch all of FMABĮven if you literally just go in and surgically remove everything from the 2003 series that isn't part of the manga and Frankenstein-stitch the bits from Brotherhood that belong in its place, the difference in tone, characterization, themes, and messages are so completely different between the two that it's going to be god-awful in every respect.Īnd aside from the fact that it's going to be confusing, schizophrenic in tone, and leaving a million plot threads and foreshadowing not followed up on properly, I can't understate the incredible disservice to the masterwork of the original series by implying it's "not worth your time" in saying that it's "completely optional".įurthermore, while I happen to prefer the dub for both versions, the sub is objectively better. It may only be about 90 episodes, but they are both pretty dense shows so I suggest taking a break between series if you are a casual. After that the rest of the series stays with the manga in a story completely different from the second half of the first series. The first 14 episodes are almost the same story as the first 28 of FMA (2003), but without filler and add up to the end, so don't skip them. Once you have watched enough FMA (2003) you can move on to FMAB. A lot of the voice actors change between series so it's weird at first but you get used to it. Sidenote: I recommend the dub for both FMA (2003) and FMAB. If you do watch it all the way through, make sure to watch The Conqueror of Shamballa after, which is essentially the conclusion to that series. Keep in mind it breaks from the manga and gets a bit weird, and FMAB is completely different in it's ending. Watching the rest of FMA (2003) is completely optional at this point. If you already like the first series you might as well watch those last few. Episodes 26-28 of FMA (2003) can be watched but arent's exactly essential because FMAB spends more time on that part of the story. The Youswell incedent, the reveal of ED's automail, and an important character death, (not saying who!). 4 for example is complete filler, in my opinion), the episodes give a good feel for the series and explain a few things they kind of rush over in FMAB. While not all episodes are super important. for this first half, the series stayed close to the manga. Start with Fullmetal Alchemist (2003), you only "need" to watch episodes 1-25.
