Regarding the test, I'm sure you know that math builds on itself, so it's important to establish whether or not someone understands the basics. People who actually get into math also don't just totally forget stuff like geometry since they understand it on a more fundamental level rather than just learning the topics to get through the class and forgetting them immediately afterward thinking that stuff is no longer useful. I'd also say you're completely and totally wrong there since higher math is all about proofs, but that's not the point here. I get what you're saying about higher math being a lot about trigonometry, graphing, and basic math. There’s probably some higher than me reasoning behind this and i’m just being a brat about it, but oh my word. I might take the test again but Idk, i just find it super annoying that we’re tested on subjects learned and never revisited ages ago. I’m taking the AP exam for calc so hopefully I get a passing score so that they won’t make me take a lower mathematics. Most of my peers have not even taken the class bc it wasn’t required. Never ever have used geometry since i’ve taken the class. Maybe for a lesson or so, but the only thing you’ll ever continuously use is basic mathematics, trigonometry, and graphing. As you get into high mathematics, 90% of that stuff never is revisited. I’m highly annoyed because most of the things on that test I literally learned years ago pre pandemic and haven’t seen since then tbh. Passed all those courses with A’s (with the exception of pre calc my second sem). I took alg 1 in 8th grade, geometry 9th, honors alg 2/trig 10th, Pre calc 11th, and currently in Calc AB. Math hasn’t always been my strongest subject, but i’ve always been placed in advanced math classes. I’m finishing up my senior year of high school. I just got around to finishing my placement test, and I’m super annoyed with what was on the test and what I got, so this is honestly a rant.
